For several years prior to the organization of this lodge, Dr. S.A.Brown, {Most Worshipful Grand Master, 1909-10} had been the Secretary of Minnehaha No. 5, A.F.& A.M. He had become painfully aware that there were many masons in the city who were not affliated here. He conceived the idea of starting a new Lodge, that a friendly spirit of emulation might be engendered which would result in much good to the Craft in the city. Acting upon impulse and with many hoops to jump through he was successful and he was elected to be the Secretary of the new Lodge. Dispensation for Unity Lodge #130 A.F.& A.M., Sioux Falls, SD was granted on June 13, 1900 by the Grand Lodge of South Dakota and was constituted July 02, 1900.
It's first Worshipful Master was Marshall R. Brown and he served in that capacity in 1900, 1901, and 1902. He was a recent Past Master of Minnehaha Lodge #5. [More information will be entered on the History Page in the near future].
